Djeggnog,
You must believe what you want and so must I. We shall both be judged.
i'm disgusted.
so, i'm formally challenging djeggnog to either substantiate or retract his outrageous claim that:.
1. russell made no predictions about 1914.. 2. specifically, russell never predicted christ's "coming" for 1914.

Djeggnog,
Although you emphasized the words in the 1968 WT. Perhaps, could, would, remember that this is six years later, time is running out.
The statement "Evening of seventh creative day begins,4026 BCE." backed up by "morning of the seventh creative day begins, 526 BCE." page 131 of the Gods Eternal Purpose book.
"The first half or "evening" period of God's seventh creative "day" was now closing, 3,500 years from creation of Adam and EVE. The morning of this creative "day" was due to begin at 526 BCE."
No "perhaps" and you made the point how the "truth" is what is currently taught and that is what was current in 1974/5
i'm disgusted.

Djeggnog,
I think maybe you didn't comprehend what I was saying and maybe it's the way I said it due to my lack of education.
No I wasn't stumbled by the teachings about 1975. I remained a JW for the next 20 years. However these "opinions" contained in the WT I wouldn't preach any longer.
jehovah could read the hearts of david and bath-sheba and see their genuine repentance.
taking.
such a factor into consideration, he judged them accordingly, in a merciful and loving manner.. .
I find the David and Bathsheba account difficult. However the existence of the human race was at stake and Christ needed to come in a certain manner. God isn't answerable to us. What man hasn't commited adultery in his heart.
"And certainly, having a child die is punishment of its own kind"
I think most parents would gladly trade places with their children if they were to die.
I think that Uzzah was unclean and God is Holy.

Djeggnog,
On page 271 of the 1968 Watchtower it explained how naming of the animals by Adam "would have occupied only a brief time". The creation of Eve, "he would create Eve soon after Adam, perhaps just weeks or months later in the same year, 4026 BCE. After her creation, God's rest day, the seventh period, immediately followed."
In the God's Eternal Purpose Now Triumphing, Page 51 "Evening" of Seventh Creative "Day" begins, 4026 BCE" we studied it 14th Jan. 1975.
This seems to be suggesting that Eve WAS created in 4026 within weeks or months of Adam and so fitting it with the generation belief of the time and the seven thousand year long day belief it is difficult to not come to the conclusion that 1975 was going to be the End.
Honesty about this stills seems to be lacking in the organization. This was one of the main points discussed with the Elder a few years ago that resulted in him talking badly of me from the platform. It was a point refered to by the last Elder who visited me at the outset of the conversation on the new understanding of the generation and how we wouldn't want to be like those in 1975 who were looking to dates and selfishly left. When in reality they stumbled over a false teaching.
after reading on the way out's thread about his mom explaining the generation overlap to him it kicked this idea into my head to make this thread .
i thought it would be helpful to see if anybody here has had jw relatives or friends try to explain this " generation overlap " theory to you as a faded or inactive witness and what happened in the conversations.
so please feel free to post your experiences.
Djeggnog.
You explained the progressive nature of the truth. What the truth is today. So let's go back to 1974 and imagine that that is where we are today.
The new book just released at our summer assembly tells us that 4026 started the 7th creative day. We understand that the creative days are 7000 years long. We are deep in the time of the end. The generation that saw 1914 is old my grandfather who fought in the 1st world war is 86.
If we do the math we only have just over a year or the 7th creative day is not 7000 years long if there is to be a 1000 year reign of Christ. My friend is told by the circuit overseer she may only get a few months of pioneering in if she starts now. The presiding overseer has called a meeting of the elders and ministerial servants to tell them that he feels concerned that some are not showing in the way they talk that they believe we are this close to the end. The field service overseer opens the meeting with the words "brothers we only have months left"
This is where God's chariot is. This is what i am being told by God's channel of communication his faithful slave. So I act, believing that within months the biggest calamity to ever hit mankind will strike. What were you doing? I drop out of high school to pioneer.
Do you think i have good reason not to trust the faithful and discreet slave class? Do you think I want some elder who wasnt even born coming to my house to tell me how selfish people were in 1975 if they thought the end was coming?

Djeggnog,
I think you missed the point that the 4026 was published as the start of the seventh day nothing to do with Eve's creation and we studied it 1975 but so many elders still claim they never said anything about 1975

Djeggnog,
I think you wrongly assumed I said I had a dead faith. I have a living faith the works follow. Good works. A dead faith is not a faith.
Maybe the lady I mentioned has not understood everything but i'm sure she believes in the Jesus of the bible and she believes that those whom she takes the bread and wine to are his brothers. Just as you told me in a previous post to see those who are his brothers at the hall who partake of the emblems. No other way to identify them as the teachings change and what one believed yesterday would be unscriptural today.
I don't join with the congregation in the preaching work at this point in my life. I cannot preach things that my conscience would not permit. I cannot see the sign of Christ's presence, coming, invisible presence or whatever you wish to term it.
In the August 15th Watchtower of 1968. The Chronology which was used to support 1975 was given the support of the generation teaching which we had at the time. Later in the book "God's Eternal Purpose Now Triumphing For Man's Good" Published in 1974 and studied at the bookstudy 14th Jan 1975. Page 51 The subheading "Evening" of seventh Creative "day" begins, 4026 B.C.E. Page 131 Subheading "Morning" of seventh Creative "day" begins, 526 B.C.E.
Both of these teachings, understandings or whatever they are proven false.
You use similar Chronological teachings to support your views of Christ's invisible presence along with a different viewpoint of the word parousia than I have heard and now in this presence teaching we have a new extended generation idea.
We have talked about the sign and the previous teachings and i believe you said they were unscriptural. In my view this is your message. If and when I can support it I will preach it. I think in looking at the history considering that God's name and people's lives are at stake to have to accept as truth unscriptural teachings I think falls far short of what Christ requires.

Djeggnog,
I enjoyed reading your post and there are things to think about in it.
There is a lady I know who is a Catholic. She is elderly and goes to church every day. She reads her bible regularly as I have seen over the years. She has shown me kindness on several occasions. She reads portions of the bible to her congregation (which is larger than the congregation of JW's in our area) She visits the sick and takes them the bread and wine. Do you think she has faith in Jesus? Do you think on the last day he will say "... Be on your way from me you who have been cursed, into the everlasting fire prepared for the Devil and his angels." Do you think she should have been proclaiming something "wholly unscriptural" so as to hear him say "Come you who have been blessed by my Father inherit the kingdom.."?

"This is not really so, now is it? Do you really have faith? Are you the sort that has faith "to the preserving alive of the soul"? Or, are you the kind of person that has just "[shrunk] back to destruction? (Hebrews 10:39) If the former were true, this would be a good thing, but I have judged that the latter is true about you, which is not a good thing."
Djeggnog,
If I have faith in Christ ransom sacrifice then I have life. A lack of faith is what destroys the soul and you are not my judge.
